    Good morning,
    You state that: “PM-WireTM has the potential to return rare earth mining and permanent magnet manufacturing to the United States” So am I to assume that this product is based on the use of rare earth? In my experience, the main problem encountered in the production of rare earth magnets is the continuously increasing price of the material. Would this allow for the construction of magnets used in Mass Spectrometry or magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy for a more reasonable price?

    Denis: Thank you for the great question.

    PM-Wire is a complete unique manufacturing process which utilizes existing permanent magnet (PM) materials. Rare Earth materials are abundant throughout the world. The problem has been the cost to manufacture PMs and assemble products which use them. PM-Wire addresses the cost for production, challenge/cost for assembly and provides an entire new landscape for design and applications.

    Regarding your applications I would assume yes. Think about your ideal field, say a Halbach array.. then definitely a “yes”!

    So, you are talking about starting with the raw elements and not one of the existing alloys? NdFeB, for example, is not cheap and has kept crawling up in price. Assembling a Halbach array is indeed very challenging, especially if you want to build one with a very homogeneous field for High Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. One of the holy grails of the field (no pun intended) is an affordable table top system with the performance of a laboratory size magnet.
